Petty Tyranny is the brain-child of W. Thomas Webb, a native Carolinian currently transplanted to Scotland. Herein you will find musing seapower, international security, and general foreign policy curiosities.
Like most things in life, the title ‘Petty Tyranny’ is not an original thought, but small homage to a wonderful quote by Edward Abbey:
“No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electro-mechanical gadgets.”
This blog is an attempt to move beyond the tyranny of politics and the constraints immediacy to look at issues of grand importance.
Thomas graduated from James Madison University in 2009 where he received a B.A. in Political Science, graduating cum laude.
Currently, Thomas is finishing a Masters in International Security at the prestigious University of St. Andrews with a focus on seapower, great power politics, and realist security theory.
